The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China assembled in Beijing triumphantly, marking that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era. China is experiencing profound changes in its relations with the world against the current backdrop, with its role in global governance shifting from a “receiver” to a “promoter”. The principal contradiction facing Chinese society has evolved into the contradiction between unbalanced and inadequate development and the people?s ever-growing need for a better life. These overall historical changes have proposed new requirements for the work of the Party and the state, and also new expectations for the construction of new types of think tanks with Chinese characteristics, embracing new opportunities for developing new think tanks with Chinese characteristics.
To develop new think tanks with Chinese characteristics, we must work hard to study and develop the Marxist theory, to construct philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics, thoroughly implement the people-centered development thought, and shoulder the mission of national rejuvenation. We must, apart from narrowing the gap between knowledge and policy, further function the “assisting government, inspiring wisdom, achieving checks and balances, pooling talents, and making China stronger” in domestic and foreign affairs, strengthen the capacity building, further drive the scientific, democratic and legal decision-making system, and further modernize the national governance capacity.
